El Cochinito
If you’re looking for one of the best Cuban sandwiches in the world, look no further than El Cochinito on Sunset Boulevard in Silver Lake.
El Cochinito (“The Little Pig”) has been serving Cuban food out of this small strip mall in Silver Lake, between a dental clinic and thrift store, since 1988. The family-owned and operated restaurant was started by Gladys Gutierrez with recipes straight from Havana — where her father operated a restaurant in the 1950s.
In 2018 El Cochinito’s Cubano Sandwich was crowned the Best Cuban Sandwich at the International Cuban Sandwich Festival in Ybor City, Florida. And that’s quite an accomplishment in a city known for its excellent Cuban sandwiches.
